Brian Burke (Canadian, 1952 – )

Brian was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in 1952.

He studied design at Holland College (1971-73), and Fine Art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (1974). His work has been supported by the P.E.I. Council of the Arts and by the Canada Council for the Arts. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.

The paintings are in a figurative tradition with an emphasis on an even balance between form and content. The work contains elements of social commentary sometimes employing satire. A more universal reading of the work alludes to isolation and alienation in today's society.

Recent projects include the completion of a commission for the Confederation Centre Art Gallery and art fair Karlsruhe, Germany and Toronto International Art Fair.
